Homemade Pasta Sauce (Italian Gravy)
This sauce can come together pretty quick and is suitable for a weeknight meal, however there is a a noticible difference in flavor if you cook it for a few hours. It requires only a few ingredients, most of which you will probably have on hand.
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 1 -3 hours
- Total Time: 58 minute
- Yield: 4 servings 1x
- Category: Main Dish
- Method: stove top
- Cuisine: Italian American
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large can of san marazano tomoatoes
- 1/2 stick butter
- 4 cloves of garlic, crushed and fine diced
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 Tablespoon of our That’s Amore Italian Herb Blend
- 1–2 Tablespoons of sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1–2 Tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Heat a large pan or dutch oven over medium high heat. Add olive oil, diced onion and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook until softened.
- Add garlic and That’s Amore Italian seasoning and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes or until fragrant.
- Add tomatoes, stir to incorporate. Add another pinch of salt, reduce the heat to medium low or low simmer. Stir in sugar and additional pinch of salt and pepper.
- Cover and cook for at least 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add butter. Stir until fully incorporated. Simmer for at least an additional 15 minutes or continue to cook for 2-3 hours on a low simmer for a fuller flavor sauce (if you do that, it may thicken and you may need to occasionally add a little water)
