Cayenne is about 10 times hotter than a jalapeño. This spicy cayenne powder is perfect for those who like heat (50-60k Scoville units – if you’re looking for some even (!) hotter check out our Organic Bird’s Eye Chili Powder that comes in around 150,000 Scoville units).
Our cayenne is grown on the equator and potent, so use sparingly to add smokey citrus flavor and heat to your recipes. Our professional chef customers have raved about the quality of our cayenne. Because ours is so fresh and potent, you’ll probably want to use about half of what your recipe calls for. It also builds heat as you cook, so it’s wise to add it in toward the end of your cooking if you’re trying to not make your dish too spicy.

I just opened this up today and used 1 whole teaspoon in fried okra and onions. It gave just the right amount of heat (more of a deep warmth rather than a burn) and it really made the dish amazing. My kids even ate it and only mentioned that it was a “smidge spicy.” We don’t like our mouths on fire, but are trying to build up more tolerance for spicy foods. This will be a great way to achieve that in my every day cooking. It’s a great product and I’ll definitely order from here again when I run out.
